Danielle graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Certificate in Criminology from Memorial University of Newfoundland in 1996. She then went on to obtain a Diploma in the Occupational Therapy Assistants Program from College of the North Atlantic in 2000. From there she went on to graduate from Dalhousie University’s Occupational Therapy Program in 2004. Danielle has held various positions within the public and private sector since graduation specifically in mental health, case management services, cardiology, critical care, occupational rehabilitation and physical medicine (primarily stroke, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, progressive neurological conditions, musculoskeletal, and orthopedic injuries).
Danielle has 10 years experience in vocational rehabilitation services with specialized training in Ishernhagen and Key Method Protocol Functional Capacity Evaluation Assessments. Danielle is also trained in the Progressive Goal Attainment Program and completed a workshop titled “Independent Living Through Home Modification and Design” to increase her knowledge of home assessment and accessibility issues.
Since graduation Danielle has been actively involved in provincial, regional and national committee levels. From a provincial perspective, she was part of the Newfoundland andLabrador Association of Occupational Therapists (NLAOT) Executive from 2005 – 2009; acting as education chair (2005 - 2006) and president (2006 – 2009) and an Association of Allied Health Professionals (AAHP) Board Member for St. John’s Metropolitan region 2010-2011. From a regional perspective, Danielle held the position of Chair of the Occupational Therapy (OT) Regional Council 2008 -2010. From a national perspective, Danielle has been a member of the Certification Exam Committee with the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists (CAOT) since 2010 and is currently acting Chair. Memberships include the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists (CAOT), the Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Occupational Therapists (NLAOT), and the Newfoundland and Labrador Occupational Therapy Board (NLOTB).
At IOHS, Danielle is carrying out functional assessments, home demand analysis, ergonomic workplace assessments and medical-legal evaluations. Since 2004, Danielle has performed a variety of home assessments and personal care assessments for numerous referral sources including the WHSCC, disability insurance companies, insurance adjustors, legal representatives and Veterans Affairs. Recommendations to improve a client’s function, independence, safety, home accessibility, and quality of life were provided. Presently, Danielle is working as an occupational therapist/clinical supervisor with the Strengths Team – Case Management Services, Mental Health and Addictions program within Eastern Health while continuing as a contractual consultant with IOHS.
