Highlights
Theresa graduated from McGill University in 1989 with a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy. She worked in Alberta and Ontario before arriving in Newfoundland in 1992, at which time she started to specialize in the area of vocational rehabilitation. Theresa has worked in both a hospital-based and private clinic setting, providing vocational rehabilitation services. Although her experience over the years has been varied, including experience in psychiatry and geriatrics, Theresa has essentially specialized in two primary areas: vocational rehabilitation, and rheumatology (which includes splinting and orthotics).
Theresa’s training in the area of vocational rehabilitation includes two office ergonomics courses; a Work Hardening workshop from Roy Matheson and Associates; training and certification for Arcon Functional Capacity Evaluation administration; PGAP (Progressive Goal Attainment Program) trained and certified; and gait analysis training. Other relevant training includes assessment of inflammatory polyarthritis; custom orthotics seminars sponsored by the Orthotic Group; splinting workshop by Pat McKee of University of Toronto; and training in Universal Design.
In addition to Theresa’s Occupational Therapy experience in vocational rehabilitation, she also has seven years of experience working in the field of disability management, especially in the area of long term disability. Involved in this work is case management, facilitation of return to work, but has also included transferable skills analyses/labour market re-entry assessments; resume writing; and alternate resolutions (i.e., settlements).
Memberships include the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists (CAOT), the Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Occupational Therapists (NLAOT), and the Newfoundland and Labrador Occupational Therapy Board (NLOTB). Theresa is a past treasurer of the NLAOT (1996-97) as well as past member (i.e., Registered Rehabilitation Professional) of the Canadian Association of Rehabilitation Professionals (CARP).
At IOHS, Theresa specializes in functional assessments, return to work services, job site analyses, ergonomic consulting, home demands analysis, medical-legal evaluations and splinting/orthotics.
